Evaluation Question 5

My Response
What about your product appeals to them?
As my target audience is young adults I think using locations such as a park and a bus make the story more relatable as it’s something they can associate themselves with. I also think that my opening being a horror movie might appeal to them as a lot of teenagers and young adults watch Supernatural films.

Think about genre and conventions- will your audience/reader be satisfied?
I think my opening adheres to conventions of similar horror movies as the first person to die is the first person showed on screen and they are a female. I also think the sound audio of the increasing heart rate also adhere to the conventions of the genre.

What other techniques/images have you included?

In my opening i used a 'Film4' logo which my target audience might recognise and might forewarn them about what kind of movie I would have created. I also I think the sound clip of heavy breathing made the audience feel a sense of panic and but puts them in the position of the victim, I think the quickening heart rate also helps with this.

Audience Response

What about my product appeals to you?

Ria: ' Something that appealed to me was the fact that it was a supernatural horror movie. I also really liked the soundtrack that was layered on top of the footage as it increases the suspense I felt throughout the opening scene .'

Does my opening adhere to the stereotypes of horror movies?
Niki: 'In some ways I think it does, as the main character was a female and you are lead to believe that she is killed of after the opening. I also think the sound files used help to create the tension that you would also have in horror movies, the music also helps show how the character on screen is feeling. However I think the opening also challenges the genre as there isn't any violence shown, even though no special effects make up is used to create fear, I still think this opening does a good job at putting the audience into a state of panic.'
Where there any techniques you noticed?
Ria: ' I think the footage in black and white really sets the tone for the opening as well as the music layered over the top. I recognised the opening logo immediately and it made me intrigues about the opening as I wanted to see if it would be like other horror movies produced by Film4 which are usually Psychological or if it would be a Supernatural movie. I also like the use of the heavy breathing sound clip as I found myself beginning to reciprocate the action.'

Evaluation Question 1

Final Product

With my Final Opening sequence I decided to re film it using a different actor as I was told by several people who watched the previous openings that it didn't create a suspenseful atmosphere. I think the sound effects I used in this version help the opening to be more tense and I think they fit the stereotypes of horror movies a lot better. I think a successful part of my opening is the way it was edited together as I think the shots flow well together and the transition between the shots is not noticeable unless it was made to be for a greater impact. However one weakness of my opening was the shakiness of some of my shots, but from this I now know that I should of used a tripod to help film shots where the camera doesn't track the victim.
