Focus Group on Initial idea

I was told that my opening did not create the sense of panic like I was intending it to. I was told that the background noise took away from what was going on in the scene. I plan to use sound clips of ambient noises that I can layer over the top of new footage. I want to also include audio clips of heavy breathing and an increasing heart beat as I think this will help put the audience in a sense of panic as they can understand what the main character is going through.

I also plan to use faster paced editing to create tension through scenes, I was told to use more jump cuts as it would help disorientate the audience which would increase suspense.

Rough Edit 2

I added a few titles to my opening scene to see where i could place them on top of the footage without it taking away from the main action. I have decided to re film my opening as i dont think it fits the conventions for a horror/suspense movie. I plan to do this over the half term break so i have a lot of time to edit it. I will be using the same actors but i will be trying to make it have more similarities to the opening of 'It Follows'.

'Insidious'

This figure of an old lady get zoomed into before the shot fades to black and cuts to the main title.
This shot hints to the audience that she will be a main part of the story and is an important character. This figure might also suggest the supernatural theme that is shown in the movie and through the credits.
When the main title appears the music peaks in loudness and pitch which could make the audience even more tense. The light that illuminates the title almost appears to be flickering making it look like a candle light. This could also create suspense the audience might be feeling. The title almost jumps on the screen in a fast pace and cuts off quickly as well. I think this is done to make the impact of the title more intense.
All of the titles have been written in a bright red font which is very eye catching. The titles fade in and out with the images behind them. The titles are placed on top of black and white images of a house which sets the mood for a supernatural horror movie, it also makes the movie feel dated and puts it into a different time era.
